SURVEY RESULTS
129 TASCA members responded to the
Interest Survey at the July 17 Membership event.
We are adding the requested activities as we have building space
and volunteers to implement the activities.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to let us know what
activities you wanted.

CASCADES
GIVES SIX LUCKY TASCA
WINNERS BIG PRIZES AT
AUGUST POTLUCK DINNER
Lea Guard, Community Director of Mansions at the Cascades Active
Adult Community, spoke about the Cascades’ new adult community and
then drew names for door prizes.
These weren’t ordinary door prizes.
$250 in Wal-Mart gift cards were given to the lucky winners, Pat
Williams, Doris Davis, Betty Whitaker, Wilma Rust, Dorothy
Martin, Lowell Dailey, and Jeanne Rowlett.
Thanks to Doris Sharp for arranging the program, and thanks to
the members who helped in the kitchen.

EAST TEXAS STATE FAIR MANAGER
September Monday Night Potluck will be on the second Monday
night, September 8, at 6:00 PM,
because of the Labor Day
Holiday.
John Sykes, General Manager & CEO of the East Texas State
Fair Association will be our speaker.
Sykes reports they have BIG plans for Seniors Day at the Fair.
We’ll have a big group so bring your best main dishes, veggies,
salads, and desserts. As always, TASCA will furnish paper goods and

FURNISHES REFRESHMENTS
FOR AUGUST DANCE
WOW!
Mansions at the Cascades Active Adult Community director, Lea
Guard, provided a feast for over 70 dancers at the August dance, our
second dance at Cedars of Lebanon.
We had punch, cokes, cheese and meat tray, crackers, veggies
& dip, trail mix, cookies, cheesecake, and cream puffs.
Thanks Lea!
And thanks to
Glenda Miller, Paul Long, and Rheta York for
selling tickets and to Rheta for decorating with her
beautiful floral arrangements.

UT
TYLER TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL
MAINTENANCE TO TASCA
ACTIVITY BUILDING
UT Tyler has generously agreed to strip and wax the
kitchen and bathroom floors, paint the entrance door, clean and paint
the A/C vents, and other needed cleaning and maintenance items.
Many thanks to those TASCA members who came on our first workday
on August 1 and cleaned.
Workers were Rheta York, Faye Crawford, and Marilyn McWilliams,
along with some “supervisors” who met with UT Tyler personnel to
discuss needed
maintenance.
The supervisors were Larry Whitaker, Hugh Denson, Doris Sharp,
Pete Haygood, and Glenda Miller.
Special thanks to Rheta York who has volunteered to donate her
time, talents, and decorations to brighten up the building. |

CLASSIC
III
The
TASCA Triple Steppers will be hosting the Line Up and Dance Classic for
the third year on
September 18.
This year's LUD Classic III will be held at the Mineola Civic
Center. More than 150 line dancers from Mineola, Longview, Lufkin,
Greenville, Duncanville, Garland, and Waco will be joining the Triple
Steppers to "dance like nobody's watching."
As a special treat this year, dance instructors Dwain and Kay
Spradlin, TASCA members and owners of Dance433 in Chandler, will be
performing an
exhibition dance for us! Admission is $15 for both dancers and
spectators.
A box lunch is included and a registration form must be returned
before September 10. Everyone is invited and will have a great time!

GROUPS TO MERGE
The
Basic 42 group and the Advanced 42 group will become the “42 group”
and will play on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Wednesday time was moved to
10:45 AM until 12:45 PM. The Monday time
remains at
12 :00 PM to 4:00 PM. |

TAI
CHI CLASSES TO
BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER
Andy Meisenheimer, a Tai Chi instructor at Tyler
Junior College for ten years and a
former TASCA instructor, will begin Tai Chi at TASCA on September
8 at 10:30 to 11:30.
Please come 15 minutes early to get registered.
If you would be willing to register the students and take the
money, you may attend the sessions at no charge. |

EAST
COAST SWING DANCE LESSONS
Jim Gehring’s C&W 2-step classes
that began on August 7 at the TASCA Auxiliary building attracted 23
dancers.
September’s lessons will be the East Coast Swing.
This dance is great for both ballroom and country western
dancing.
Lessons will be in four-week blocks, and your check in the amount
of $20 must be received by mail or in person by the first class on
September 4.
Only students who attend the first
session on September 4 can be in the class.
No latecomers will be registered.
TASCA members' fees were subsidized the first set of lessons and
were only $18.
This was to support our members and provide special offers for
members during our membership drive.
The fee for members will now be the actual cost of the lesson
($20).
Non-members' fee will remain $34.
If you would like to sign up for the four lessons, please make
your check for $20 to TASCA ($34 for non-members) and mail your check to
TASCA, PO Box 131540, Tyler 75713, or you may pay at the first lesson.
You must pay for the entire 4-week session by the first lesson of
the series.

DAY OUTING TO
WOVEN HARMONY
The University of Texas at Tyler has
offered half-price tickets to TASCA members FOR a Saturday
matinee on October 4 called WOVEN HARMONY, a classical guitar and woven
tapestries show.
We’ll meet at the Cowan Center and sit together as the TASCA
group. Regular cost per ticket is $11.
TASCA members can
purchase a ticket through TASCA for $5.50.
Please make your check
payable to TASCA and indicate which TASCA members the tickets are
for.
You may order non-member tickets for $11.

EXERCISE
CLASSES TO BEGIN
SEPTEMBER 3
Thanks to Carol Lott for arranging for Charretta
Jeffers, a certified fitness specialist in senior programming from the
Cooper Institute, to begin exercise lessons for seniors on Wednesday,
September 3, and Friday, September 5, from 9:30 to 10:30.
One-hour sessions will be twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays
at the TASCA Auxiliary Building.
The
Cost is $2 person per one-hour session for TASCA members and $4 person
per one-hour session for
non-members.
No pre-registration is necessary.
Just come to TASCA on Wednesday, September 3, at 9:15 (15 minutes
early to get registered).
FIRST SESSION ON SEPTEMBER 3 IS FREE TO TASCA MEMBERS.
If you would be willing to register students and collect the
fees, you may attend the sessions at no charge. |

TURKEY
- BIBLICAL AND
ARCHEAOLOGICAL TREASURES OF
ASIA MINOR
Dr. Manoucher Khosrowshahi, or Dr. K as he is often called,
of Tyler Junior College will give a presentation on the journeys of St.
Paul, Biblical sites, and Geek/Roman
civilizations in Asia Minor. Dr. K is a
selected speaker for the Texas Council for the Humanities and
reviewer for the National Security Educational Program. He has
extensive field work and travel experience in the Middle East,
Far East, and Near East. As part of his research in comparative
politics, he traveled to Turkey over 15 times in the past 10 years, and
to England, Japan, Thailand, Iran, and Mexico. He is fluent in
English, Azeri Turkish, Farsi, and Arabic. |

AFTERNOON LINE DANCE CLASS
TO BEGIN
The surveys
completed by TASCA members at the July 17 Membership Drive event
indicated that some members who cannot
attend line dance in the mornings wanted late
afternoon line dance classes.
TASCA will
begin a line dance class from 3:00 to 4:00 at the TASCA building
on Friday afternoons
beginning September 5.
No charge for these lessons taught by Lowell Daily. |

SENIORS FOR THEIR
SPORTING EVENTS
UT Tyler offers seniors a general
admission fee of $3 for their sporting events.
Gather up a group of friends and attend one of these events and

MAH
JONGG LESSONS TO BEGIN
IN SEPTEMBER
There are still a
couple of openings in the Mah Jongg lessons scheduled to begin on
Monday, September 8, at 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Maggie Glodde and Valerie McClure will teach the class.

You may also come to the first lesson and register, provided
there are still spaces available.
